Challenge

Stepping into a critical role following the unexpected departure of the lead design engineer, this project required seamless continuation of an existing AHU design while maintaining project momentum and delivery timelines. The immediate challenge was to navigate existing documentation and bring complex assemblies through to manufacture while coordinating across design, technical, and production teams.

Solution

Implemented a comprehensive approach that evolved over two distinct phases:

  1. Initial Phase: Successfully managed the transition by:

  • Taking ownership of the existing model and documentation

  • Developing complete manufacturing and assembly drawing packages

  • Coordinating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure producibility

  • Maintaining project continuity without disruption

  1. Enhancement Phase: Elevated the design framework by:

  • Implementing intelligent modeling techniques for the top-level assembly

  • Creating adaptive panel systems and component relationships

  • Developing parametric controls for key dimensional changes

  • Building in design flexibility while maintaining assembly integrity

Outcome

Transformed a potential project disruption into an opportunity for lasting improvement. The intelligent modeling system reduced design time for dimensional variations by up to 70%, while the creation of configurable templates now enables rapid deployment for similar projects. This systematic approach has become a blueprint for future AHU designs, significantly reducing initial setup time while maintaining consistent quality standards.
